Ghosts Of Walronds Tudor House 2nd Oct 2026
Walronds Cullompton History
The Walronds, located in Cullompton, Devon, is a Grade I listed building with a rich history dating back to the late Tudor period between
1570 and 1605. It was commissioned by John Peter and replaced the family home of his wife, Emmeline Paris, whose father and
grandfather were wealthy Cullompton merchants. The house was
rebuilt
between 1603 and 1605 following a fire in 1602 and has undergone
several modifications since then. The Walronds is notable for its fine oak-panelled rooms, elaborate plasterwork ceilings, decorative over
mantels, and the survival of much of its early 17th-century fabric. It was acquired by the Cullompton Walronds
Preservation Trust in 2004 and underwent a restoration scheme
completed
in 2014. Today, The Walronds serves as a community hub with a
hospitality and retail offering, while preserving its historical charm
and
significance.
