Notable Ghosts and Paranormal Activity

Tamworth Castle has a long history of reported hauntings, featuring several well-known spirits:

• The Black Lady (Editha): Believed to be a 9th-century nun expelled from Polesworth Abbey, her ghost is said to haunt the Lady’s Chamber. She reportedly attacked Baron Marmion in 1139, prophesying his untimely death unless the nuns were restored to the Abbey, leaving a lasting legend of vengeance and poltergeist activity in the castle.
• The White Lady: Said to have been thrown into the Tower by Sir Tarquin, she later fell in love with him. Her spirit is said to wander the castle searching for her murdered love.
• The Green Lady (Lady Elizabeth Drury): Imprisoned for her involvement in the Babington Plot against Queen Elizabeth I, she is reportedly seen walking through the castle rooms .
• Other apparitions: Visitors and staff have reported seeing a man in black, believed to be a soldier killed during the English Civil War, and experiencing poltergeist phenomena such as furniture moving, blue mist, and strange noises.
